China has signed agreements with Sudan, its close ally in Africa to build 600-megawatt atomic reactor, the first such project in the African country, official media reported on Thursday.Two framework deals have been signed by state-owned China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) with Sudan on nuclear power development, including building a 600-megawatt atomic reactor, official media China Daily reported.


The Afghan Taliban has named Haibatullah Akhunzada as the successor of Mullah Akhtar Mansour who was killed in a U.S. drone strike at the weekend.
Akhunzada had served as one of Mansour's deputies and had been named in a United Nations report last year as the Taliban's former chief justice. 

Cabinet approves first-ever national capital goods policy to increase production of capital goods to 7,50,000 crore rupees by year 2025; Policy also envisages creation of direct and indirect employment from the current 8.4 million to 30 million; Cabinet also approves five railway infrastructure projects worth over 10,000 crore rupees.

The United Nations World Humanitarian Summit concluded on 24 May 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey. The summit was organised by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA).

As per recent study conducted by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), chemical additive Potassium bromate (KbrO3) widely prevalent in bread and refined flour is carcinogenic. The World Bank has launched Pandemic Emergency Finance Facility (FEP) to help countries and health agencies fight deadly disease outbreaks. FEP is a financing mechanism designed to quickly mobilize funds to tackle global disease outbreaks and create a new insurance market for pandemic risk. India, which has emerged as the world’s second largest mobile market, is also the fifth largest producer of e-waste, discarding roughly 18.5 lakh tonnes of electronic waste each year, a study says.
Telecom equipment alone accounts for 12 per cent of the e-waste, a joint study by Assocham-KPMG said.
